Usage & Care

Wash before and after each use. Although dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing these products with warm, soapy water and rinsing thoroughly. To clean the Shell valve, use a small brush or run clean, warm water directly through it to thoroughly flush it out. To sterilise, use a steam steriliser or boil in water for 2-3 minutes. When sterilising, ensure the Shell outlet is unplugged to prevent potential deformation of the silicone. Only soft bristle brushes or soft sponges should be used to clean this product as hard scourers may scratch the surface. Do not use any bleach-based cleaners or tablets to clean or sterilise your Haakaa products.

Gen. 1 Silicone Manual Breast Pump:
1. Place the pump flange over your nipple – make sure your nipple is centred comfortably in the neck of the pump.
2 Apply suction by squeezing the base of the pump then releasing. You may need to adjust the position of your pump to ensure it remains comfortable.
3. Once milk begins to flow, simply leave the pump alone to do its thing!
4. When the pump is full, empty into a clean, sterilised storage container or bottle and
reposition.

Tips: Encourage let-down by placing a warm flannel on top of your breast and massaging gently. While your child is feeding, attach your Haakaa pump to the other breast to catch precious milk that would otherwise be lost in a nursing pad.
To get even more suction from your pump, fold back the flange to expose the neck of the pump. Centre the opening over your nipple and squeeze the pump as normal to generate suction. Once attached, return the flange to its original position.

Shell Wearable Silicone Manual Breast Pump:
Use as a pump:
1. Ensure the valve is unobstructed. With the plug closed, centre the main opening over your nipple. It should feel comfortable and your nipple should not be pushing against any part of the Shell.
2. Press and release the back of the Shell to create suction. Position and pull your bra over the Shell. Make sure its still firmly in place with no gaps around the edges.
3. If the suction generated feels uncomfortable, gently press the valve to open it and regulate the suction.
4. If you feel the suction dropping, press the centre of the back to increase the suction. This suction keeps the milk flowing and may need to be repeated several times while pumping. Be cautious of your milk level before pressing on the pump.

NOTE: Suction can be adjusted by applying different pressure on the back of the Shell. Be sure to keep an eye on the milk level to make sure it does not overfill.

Use as a collector:
If you want to use it as a breast pad alternative, you can apply it with no suction - simply press the valve to release all the pressure, or open the plug before placing it over your breast. Secure the Shell in your bra.
